01 Nov Two InnovaCare Plans Achieve Puerto Rico’s First 4.5-Star Ratings from CMS
FORT LEE, N.J. — Nov. 1, 2017 — Officials with InnovaCare, Inc., a leading provider of Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans and related services, are pleased to announce that in the 2018 Medicare Star Ratings, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) awarded MMM Healthcare, LLC (MMM) 4.5 out of 5 stars for two of its contracts: Medicare y Mucho Mas (H3004) and PMC Medicare Choice (H4004). More than 200,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Puerto Rico are enrolled in the plan.
“InnovaCare has always been committed to providing a high-quality healthcare experience for all of our members,” said InnovaCare President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Shinto, M.D. “Achieving this rating speaks to the quality and service that our organization continues to administer in Puerto Rico, even as the island undergoes significant recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria. We are grateful for our network of providers who work with us to further this commitment, and we are honored to have these efforts recognized by this rating from CMS.”
CMS star ratings are an annual reflection of information collected from member satisfaction surveys, clinical data and healthcare providers. The ratings, which apply for the 2018 plan year, help consumers choose a plan based on quality and performance. Overall plan ratings are based on healthcare and service quality measures including managing chronic conditions, detecting illnesses, customer service and member satisfaction.
“The news fills us with pride because it is the result of many efforts,” said Orlando Gonzalez, President of MMM Healthcare. “It is rewarding not only for us but also for the Puerto Rican health industry, which reaches a new level with this achievement, as well as our affiliates, who can be confident that Puerto Ricans have access to plans that serve them at such a high level. This achievement today is even more important because our country needs positive news to provide certainty that we will continue working together to achieve our goals.”
Individuals who are eligible for Medicare can select InnovaCare’s MMM- or PMC-branded, 4.5-star-rated plans during the enrollment period which began Oct. 15, 2017, and ends Dec. 7, 2017.
“For MMM, these results demonstrate a close collaboration with the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM), which has been a focus of ours in recent years as a way to improve quality,” said InnovaCare Chief Administrative Officer Penelope Kokkinides. “We still operate the only Medicare Advantage plan in Puerto Rico accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and we are pleased to have another recognition with which we can ensure our members of the quality they will receive through InnovaCare plans.”
The recognition comes amid significant fundraising and humanitarian efforts by InnovaCare. Through its hurricane relief campaign, Caminamos Juntos (“We Walk Together”), InnovaCare is continuing its efforts to rebuild Puerto Rico, where residents remain in crisis and millions are without power or sufficient medical resources.
