InnovaCare Earns Quality Recognition for Medicare Advantage Plans

Fort Lee, N.J. (June 30, 2014)– For the second year in a row, InnovaCare, Inc. has been recognized for quality excellence for its Medicare Advantage Plans. Medicare y Mucho Más (MMM) and PMC Medicare Choice (PMC) earned Commendable Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), officials announced today, making them the only health plans in Puerto Rico to receive the quality accreditation.

The most widely recognized accreditation program in the country, Commendable Accreditation from NCQA recognizes organizations with a deep commitment to service and clinical quality and that meet rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.

“This is a historic moment that recognizes our commitment to our members and our teamwork with providers in caring for them,” said Orlando González, Esq., CPA, President of MMM and PMC. “By serving our members with the highest quality opportunities for care – in close partnership with providers – we are able to obtain the best health outcomes and enhance the well-being of our members.”

To accredit a health plan, NCQA evaluates how well the plan manages all components within its system – including physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services – with the purpose of improving the quality of care its members receive. González said NCQA standards are fully incorporated into a company-wide quality improvement program, ensuring all initiatives are aimed at improving quality by promoting a model based on wellness and prevention.

“For more than a decade, we have stood out as pioneers in the Medicare Advantage industry,” González said. “Receiving this accreditation is a clear of sign of our continued commitment to that population, our sense of social responsibility and our vision to continue as a leader in our field.”

Results of the accreditation are publicly reported in five categories:

  • Access and service – Indicates how easy it is for members to obtain the care and access to services they need.
  • Qualified providers – Takes into account whether a plan ensures that its providers have the appropriate qualifications to offer services to members.
  • Staying healthy – Evaluateswhether the plan offers activities so that members can maintain good health and are able to detect health conditions in early stages.
  • Getting better – Evaluates whether the plan offers programs and activities that help members recover from an illness.
  • Living with illness – Measures whether a health plan offers care programs and activities for members living with chronic conditions.
